Why TSH rules

The goal of the company is to become the leading European hospitality brand with properties in top universities cities that attract international students, young professionals and youth travelers. In addition to the current properties operated and under construction, the growth strategy targets most major European Cities.

In 2014 / 2015, The Student Hotel secured a total of 615Mn€ funding from partners to expand the business throughout Europe. With 12 properties already open, 12 under construction, as well as 20 in the pipeline, TSH will continue to open 3 to 5 fully-owned hotels per year in the next 3-5 years. In this context, The Student Hotel is therefore looking for a Head of Banking, Treasury and Tax.

What will you be doing to make that happen?

You will work under the direct supervision of the CFO and you will perform the following functions that include, but are not limited to:

1. Debt financing:

You will be responsible for (i) the bank financing strategy and (ii) to ensure timely commitment of lenders to fund the acquisition and construction of new projects:

  • Present the TSH proposition to interested lenders (i.e. road shows)
  • Structure debt facilities, tailored to each new (group of) hotel(s)
  • Negotiate and review banking documentation (i.e. term sheets and SFA’s)
  • Prepare (financial) related conditions precedent as part of the closing process
  • You will be working closely together with the Legal team
  • Furthermore, you will have the support of international law firms and debt advisors and are expected to project manage and review their work in order to meet (tight) deadlines and come to smooth closings

Hedging Strategy – ensure the interest rate risk is sufficiently covered:

  • Foreign exchange risk may arise in the future

Relationship management with (future) lenders:

  • Quarterly covenant reporting to banks
  • Ongoing relationship management with current lenders
  • Broaden TSH’s lending network for future growth

2. Internal financing:

Make capital calls to shareholders and redistribute across various TSH Group entities to ensure funds are available in time for new projects:

  • For this you will work closely together with the Development team and the Real Estate Controller

Optimize the use of cash and internal cash flows:

  • Set-up of cash pooling structure for TSH Group
  • Cash flow management / cash flow forecasting of operational entities

3 Tax:

  • Assess and optimize the transfer pricing and tax strategy of the company, finding the right balance between efficiency and tax optimization (CIT, withholding tax, payroll tax, city tax, VAT, etc.)
  • Monitor the evolution of local legislations and corresponding tax implication through regular memos and dashboards to efficiently anticipate the tax effects on the return of TSH
  • Coordinate with Finance and consolidation team the company’s CIT and Deferred Tax computation
  • For execution of CIT computations and tax strategy, you will be supported by renowned firms
  • Monitor appropriate and timely filling of the various Tax returns for the Company

Your background

  • About 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in treasury and/or debt advisory roles
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics or Engineering form a highly reputable university/business school will be highly valued
  • Familiar with LMA loan documentation standard
  • Understand interest rate and foreign exchange derivative instruments (i.e. options, swaps, swaptions, etc.)
  • You are proactive and biased to action: “hands-on”, and “can-do” attitude with a rigorous and precise attitude capable to adapt to a fast-paced environment – we are a lean team and many times responsibilities may fall out of one’s exact job description; we are looking for folks that are willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done
  • Excellent planning skills and the ability to work with deadlines with little supervision. If you need a ton of hand holding, this isn’t the job for you
  • Ability and enjoy working in an international team
  • Native level of English essential. Other European languages are an advantage
